Anyone who wants full voltage range and better performance can use the comments at EEVblog as a guide to upgrade ( https://www.eevblog.com/forum/beginners/bangood-psu-enhancements/ ). I will use a 7812 with a small heat sink because 12-volt fans are much easier to get. I will be using MC34071 op amps in sockets to get full voltage range since the rectified voltage from a 24v transformer is the upper limit of what the TL081 op amps can support. However, TL081's can support a 22v volt transformer (should regulate up to 26v DC).
