Works well enough with small steel or iron items. Blows the transistor (IRFP260N) instantly when inserting a larger iron object into the coil. Do NOT use this with a powerful power supply (mine: 24.0V, 53A) or batteries. You will get a short circuit faster than you can think. No current limiting and not even a onboard fuse would earn this 0 stars for quality if this was possible. When you bought this I recommend a 30A fuse in the connection line (transistor is rated for 50A). The attached photo shows the transitor with the short circuit.

LightningStalker A couple of PTCs to limit the inrush might increase the reliability. I've heard that these do not like the sudden current spike presented by something such as a high current power supply with large filter caps. Maybe even a capacitor after the PTCs to give a nice ramp up to operating voltage.
