Q: what is the range on this reciver

ltwin8 Wrong! Range depends on RX AND TX because the RX also plays a big part in that it has a sensitivity. You need to know both. As well as the receivers antenna quality. I think around 100-200m are realistic with default legal Transmitter, but it’s only a guess Yes you can mod a transmitter to spot out more power, but it’s useless, first you should try to get as much out of the receivers ability to receive as possible
